Almost every document in this reading room came out of one of five pipes. We also name a sixth, company release, when Boeing published its own IMs. The point of this page is the pipe, not a search engine.

1. 1. Court

   Civil discovery and criminal exhibits. Slack printouts, WorkChat, iMessage. Kadrey, Authors Guild, High-Tech Employee, Holmes, Musk v. Altman. CourtListener / RECAP is the feed.

2. 2. Congress

   House and Senate productions, forced publication. The 2020 House Judiciary dump is how the Instagram-buy email left the building.

3. 3. FOIA

   Public-records productions. Mostly government mail, sometimes industry mail sitting in an agency inbox. MuckRock, National Security Archive, Climate Investigations Center.

4. 4. Whistleblower

   A person walks out with Workplace screenshots or a lobbying mailbox. Facebook Files / FBarchive. Uber Files via the Guardian and ICIJ. Selected, not complete.

5. 5. Published archive

   University and investigative attics that already hold the file: UCSF Industry Documents, Climate Files, DocumentCloud. The tobacco settlement is why some of this exists at all.

Texture labs, poor pairs

Sony’s 2014 mailbox (WikiLeaks), the Enron corpus (FERC / CMU / mail.enroncorp.com), Stratfor, and DDoSecrets are large and full of voice. They are weak for preference falsification: too much gossip, too few matched public sentences. They are mentioned here once, as texture, not as rooms. We do not tour personal folders. We do not rehost the dumps.
